“Toilet Revolution” started in China three years ago and it is about to be extended from the cities to the countryside. In our latest episode of Xinhua Special we pound the pavements of Beijing to see if the changes have been a welcome relief. Across the world 2.4 billion people live with access to unhygienic toilets or no toilet whatsoever. Sewage has contaminated food, water and soil, and is a major source of disease. In fact, some people say that one fly in a toilet is dangerous than 100 tigers. Within three years China installed or upgraded 68,000 toilets, and from 2018 to 2020, another 64,000 will be done.
